Current Appeal - Animal Cruelty

This bear was made to dance on command by tugging on a rope through its nose

It's a sad reality that we continue to see a great deal of animal abuse across the world. Each and every day, WSPA is on the front lines working to end deliberate cruelty to animals.

We are active on so many issues in so many parts of the world, but our battle is far from over. You can help us reach out to animals who would otherwise suffer in silence.

Like bulls, who are taunted, stabbed with swords, and tortured to death in front of cheering crowds. Whales, who are hunted with exploding harpoons that tear them apart, causing massive shock and a prolonged, agonizing death. Bears who are trained to dance as entertainment, controlled by a rope passed painfully through the nose.

And animals everywhere who are callously abused, carelessly mistreated, and cruelly murdered.

Dogs

Dogs are crammed together in tiny cages to be farmed for meat

In South Korea, a typical dog farm will house hundreds of dogs, crammed together in tiny cages. They are left exposed to extreme heat, biting wind and driving rain. Often they'll be tethered tightly around the neck.

Disease is prevalent. Flies swarm around the cages and excrement covers the floors. At the end of their short, traumatic lives they are taken to slaughterhouses or markets where dog meat is sold. They are typically electrocuted. It’s neither quick nor painless.

Your donation is urgently needed to help us dissolve the legal separation of ‘pet dogs’  and ‘meat dogs’ and to prevent the passing of legislation that supports any breed of dogs used in the dog meat industry.

Orangutans

After Inka's mother was killed, she was taken to be sold on the black market before being rescued.

When she was tiny, Inka’s mother was viciously killed in front of her. Traumatized, terrified and alone, the baby orangutan was taken to be sold on the black market.

She spent weeks living on scraps and a bowl of filthy water. Starving and close to death, Inka was rescued just in time and taken to the Nyaru Menteng Sanctuary, run by the Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation.

WSPA is funding the operating costs of housing, feeding and caring for more than 500 orangutans at the sanctuary. But caring for hundreds of abused orangutans is a constant challenge and ongoing financial aid is needed to ensure this work continues.

Your donation is urgently needed to help us support the great work of the BOS and develop a sustainable future for the Nyaru Menteng Sanctuary.

Elephants

Elephants and other animals are being poached by hunters for their meat and body parts

In Africa, a majestic elephant struggles in vain against a vicious rusty wire snare that cuts deeper and deeper into her flesh with every terrified move she makes.

Elephants, rhinos and other animals who live in Tsavo West National Park in Kenya are being hunted by poachers for their meat and body parts using poisoned arrows, crude traps and vicious wire snares. All result in a slow, painful death.

WSPA supports the KIKAMA Animal Welfare & Environmental Conservation Group that carries out vital de-snaring work, and other member societies that rescue and rehabilitate animals. But more support is needed.

Your donation is urgently needed to help us reduce the harvesting and consumption of bushmeat around Tsavo West National Park and to stop the torment of animals who are snared, beaten and killed for roaming onto farmland.

How your donation can help

Your gift can help in so many ways.

It could allow us to conduct an investigation into a case of animal cruelty. It could help us vaccinate and sterilize stray dogs, protecting them from a vicious cycle of abuse. Or it could pay for us to transport a rescued animal to a sanctuary, where it can be cared for and recover from a lifetime of suffering.

By joining our Animal Rescue Team with a monthly gift, you can help us continue to protect abused and exploited animals like these. By giving monthly, you ensure your donation has the greatest possible impact. It might not seem like a lot, but as little as $5 a month could go a long way over a year to help us stamp out cases of animal cruelty.

If you can't commit to a monthly gift today, please consider making a special one-time gift instead. However you choose to give, your gift will allow us to reach out to even more animals in desperate need right now.
